Diabetes on the rise in Singapore
Can the complications of this life-long disease be prevented?

According to recent reports, 8% of adult Singaporeans are diabetic. Worldwide, a person dies of a diabetes-related cause every 10 seconds. Can diabetics still afford to ignore the health complications of this life-long disease?

Diabetics are more prone to infections and circulatory problems. It affects microcirculation of the small blood vessels, causing heart disease, myocardial infection, high blood pressure, kidney damage, atherosclerosis, stroke, poor circulation, difficulty in walking and exercising, vision deterioration and nerve damage. According to one medical expert in Singapore, most cases of blindness, heart attacks, stroke, kidney failures, amputations etc are a result of the diabetic condition.

Medical research has shown that the blood and tissues of diabetics are marked by critically low glutathione levels. Such low levels can result in further health complications as recent studies have shown that diabetics are more prone to oxidative stress and free radical damage.

What can be done to minimize these life-long health risks?

Apart from watching your diet, exercise regularly to control your weight and blood sugar levels. There is one other very important health tip you can follow, that is to increase Glutathione (GSH) in your cells.

What is GSH?

GSH is a tri-peptide produced naturally in every cell of your body. It drives many of the body’s protective processes. High levels of GSH promote a healthier life while low levels predict disease onset.

Where is GSH found?

GSH cannot be consumed directly. It is found in every single cell in your body and must be manufactured internally and the only way to do so is so take a natural precursor which will eventually be converted to GSH. The highest levels are found in the eyes, liver, kidney and the placenta. This is where all the toxins, pollutants, etc. are filtered out from.

What are the main functions of GSH?

  1. It is your body’s most powerful Antioxidant, enhancing the efficacy of other antioxidants like Vitamin C & E. Diabetics face oxidative stress from high levels of blood sugar so antioxidants are crucial.

  2. It is your body’s most powerful Immune System Enhancer. It also prevents vascular complications.

  3. It is your body’s most powerful Detoxifier, eliminating drug metabolites, pollutants and carcinogens like cigarette smoke.

How can I raise GSH effectively in my body?

There are two proven products that can effectively raise and sustain levels of GSH in the body. The first product is a drug called N-acetylcysteine (NAC / Fluimucil). The second is a health product called Undenatured Protein Isolate / Immunocal. Both of these products are not GSH and do not contain GSH. Instead, they provide the important raw materials for GSH to be built in our cells.

NAC / Fluimucil has been used for years as a mucolytic agent, as an antidote for paracetomol poisoning and as a precursor that provides raw materials for GSH to be built.

Undenatured Protein Isolate or Immunocal has been clinically proven to assist the body in raising and sustaining optimal levels of Glutathione (GSH) by supplying the necessary raw materials. The product is not only clinically proven but also holds the following credibility:

  1. “Method of Use” patents awarded worldwide including Singapore (wherein has quoted as “…….in which the whey protein concentrate comprises serum albumin, alfa-lactalbumin and lactoferrin proteins which are cystine rich, in an amount effective to replenish depleted cellular glutathione (GSH), enhance the immune response and exert anti-cancer effects.”). Rarely granted for health supplements, the power of the “Method of Use”
patents is not in manufacturing but in its usage i.e. the product must produce clinical evidence on its claimed effectiveness.

  2. Listed in the Physicians’ Desk Reference amongst all the drugs in the U.S./Canada.

  3. Listed in the Pharmacists’ Red Book in the U.S.

  4. Eligible for coverage by Medicare/Medicaid in the U.S., which is very rare for health supplements.

  5. Awarded Certificate of G.R.A.S. (Generally Recognized As Safe).

  6. Have the most clinical studies done for a health supplement.

  7. Dr Luc Montagnier, co-discoverer of HIV from the Pasteur Institute of Paris, had included an entire chapter on Immunocal in his book entitled “Oxidative Stress in Cancer, Aids and Neurodegenerative Diseases”. This is another rare “endorsement” from one of the leading scientists in the world.

A Case Study:

Deana was a motivated, positive entrepreneur who developed a health centre for wellness despite her debilitating diabetes. Increasingly fatigued, the 32-year-old continued to run her centre even after receiving a failed kidney transplant and undergoing dialysis. Eventually, she developed a chronic foot condition that required weekly debriding of necrotic tissue. Her doctor feared that amputation might be necessary. She began taking high doses of the whey protein isolate Immunocal, a GSH precursor, and found her energy levels increased over several weeks. Kidney function tests and haemoglobin levels improved. Her drug doses for anaemia and hypertension were decreased. Her peripheral circulation improved. Five months later, her foot was healed. Deana has since married and continues to run her clinic.

Glutathione – the body’s most powerful healing agent

If glutathione is so important to our health, why does this term seem unfamiliar? Glutathione (GSH) may not yet be a household word like Vitamin C but its importance to our health cannot be overstated. After all, our bodies depend on it to survive.

Glutathione is a vital peptide (a very small protein composed of the amino acids glycine, glutamine and cysteine) that is naturally produced in every single cell of our body. This protein drives many of the body’s protective processes as a result of its 3 main functions:

  1. Antioxidant – GSH is the most powerful, master antioxidant occurring naturally in the body. It offers the body protection against damage from oxidative stress. The effectiveness of other antioxidants like Vitamins C and E depend on glutathione.

  2. Immune System Enhancer – The immune system is dependent upon GSH for its proper functioning, in particular the creation and maintenance of T-cell lymphocytes, the body’s frontline defense against infection.

  3. Detoxifier – Dozens of toxins are eliminated by the GSH enzyme system, including drug metabolites, pollutants, carcinogens and radiation damage. It is therefore no surprise that GSH concentrations are highest in the liver, the body’s major detoxifying agent.

Glutathione is so important to our well-being that high levels of the protein promote a healthier, longer life while low levels predict early disease and death. It is therefore necessary to keep our glutathione levels elevated at all times especially in the battle against pollution and diseases of the twenty-first century.

Playing specific roles in pathologies related to oxidative stress, toxicology and immune dysfunction, glutathione’s activity in a wide variety of illnesses such as cancer, aids, hepatitis, diabetes, as well as lung, heart, digestive and degenerative diseases etc cannot be overstated. More than 70,000 clinical papers haven proven that elevated levels of GSH have effectively prevented or minimized threats of numerous diseases, prolonged life-span, and promoted good health.

With such an important role to play in the treatment and prevention of hundreds of diseases, the ways of elevating glutathione have also been extensively researched. Many clinical studies have shown that glutathione provides the body with tools to fight off the damaging effects of many diseases in the most natural manner. However, glutathione should not be taken orally as it will have negligible effects on your health. GSH must be manufactured within your own cells and the only way effective way to do this is to give your body the building blocks it needs to manufacture glutathione for itself. Pharmaceutical drugs can help maintain or increase glutathione, and so can some natural resources. There are several ways of raising GSH levels in the body but only a few actually work and some of which have side effects. Medical research have proven that the safest, most effective way of boosting your GSH levels is by taking a natural glutathione precursor – undenatured (bioactive) whey proteins, namely Immunocal.

Immunocal is an undenatured humanized milk serum concentrate that has been clinically proven to enhance GSH production in your body’s cells to effectively improve your immune system naturally. With no negative side effects and no negative interaction with medicine, Immunocal is the only product in the world right now that provides building blocks of GSH in our body of significant value.

The product holds the following credibility:

The realities of male and female menopause

As the menopausal years approach, anxiety and fears of the physical and psychological transition may begin to stir in not only women, but men as well. Yet andropause, otherwise known as male menopause, and female menopause are natural events, not illnesses to be feared. Menopause may bring about some undesirable changes and mark the end of fertility for men and women in their 40s or 50s, but it certainly does not mark the end of a healthy, active and enjoyable life. Rather than quietly sinking into the menopausal years with energy levels dipping and lower resistance to viruses, men and women can still slow down the ravages of aging and manage menopause with certain treatments and self-care. Menopause for both men and women is a turning point that can lead to the best years of one’s life or a time where some may even find their second bloom of youth.

Understanding Menopause
Female menopause is a natural biological process that begins when the body starts producing fewer hormones, namely estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. When the supply of eggs from a woman’s ovaries is completely depleted and hormones are hardly produced, a woman will experience menopause with the cessation of her menstrual period. This transition usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 55 but may vary with different women.

The signs and symptoms of menopause are also likely to vary with every individual. While some may mildly experience a few symptoms, others may experience physical changes like irregular menstrual periods, decreased fertility, urinary changes such as incontinence, vaginal tract changes where the vagina becomes drier and more vulnerable to infection, hot flashes, sleep disturbances and night sweats. Changes in appearance such as weight gain, thinning hair, and wrinkles may also occur during menopause.

As a result of hormonal changes and factors like sleep deprivation and stress, some women may also experience emotional changes, which include irritability, fatigue, decreased memory, and diminished concentration.

The Truth about Andropause
Andropause or male menopause is a distinct physiological phenomenon that is in many ways similar to, yet in certain ways different from female menopause. A condition that occurs in all men generally between the ages of 40 and 55 (though it can occur as early as 35 or as late as 65), andropause was first termed to describe a decline in levels of the male hormone, testosterone.

The free (active) testosterone levels decline as the hormone tends to bind to certain proteins in men and women as they age. As free testosterone and the substance it manufactures within the body, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), are responsible for the sex drive, as well as youth and energy, a drop in free testosterone levels can therefore lead to a lack of sexual desire, a decline in energy levels, aging, lower resistance to infections, poor memory and an unmotivated state of mind.

Like menopause in women, andropause therefore begins with hormonal and physiological changes, which include degenerating sense of well-being, delayed healing of wounds and recovery from injury, lack of energy, reduced endurance for physical activity, weight-gain, poorer eye-sight, loss or thinning of hair, sleep disturbances, as well as urinary changes such as frequent urination, difficulty in urinating and urinary incontinence.

With the decline of free testosterone, andropausal men may also experience sexual changes like loss of sexual desire (libido) and potency, ejaculatory problems and reduced fertility.

Like menopausal women, men suffering from andropause also experience psychological changes such as mood swings, irritability, indecisiveness, anxiety, depression, loss of self confidence and concentration, poor memory, and loneliness.

While male and female menopause is often associated with hormonal, physical, and psychological changes, it certainly is not the end of a man or woman’s youth or sexuality especially when managed with the proper self-care and treatments available today.

How to Manage Menopausal Times
The undesirable symptoms of andropause and menopause can be relieved with treatments like hormone therapy. Testosterone Replacement Therapy, which basically replenishes the body with testosterone, is available for men, while women may relief hot flashes and vaginal discomforts with Estrogen Therapy. However, results from recent clinical studies have suggested that the benefits of the hormone therapies may be outweighed by risks such as heart attack, stroke and even cancer. Depending on one’s personal and family medical history, it is best to consult a doctor to ascertain whether hormone therapy is the ideal option to relief symptoms of menopause.

Alternatively, both men and women can relieve symptoms of menopause and aging naturally by releasing their body’s own bounded testosterone with a special strain of green oats, as clinical studies conducted in Singapore, Europe and USA have concluded. Unlike hormone replacement therapies which have side effects, green oats has been clinically proven to effectively relief andropause and menopause safely and without negative side effects or any interactions with medications. By releasing the body’s own free testosterone that is responsible for improving sexual health, increasing energy levels, slowing down the aging process, and promoting a more positive mind set, Green oats can therefore help menopausal men and women reap the benefits of the youth hormone already present in their bodies.

Health supplements containing the flowering plant, Stinging Nettle, have also been used to help relief menopause by inducing positive effects on hormones and certain proteins. Menopausal individuals are also encouraged to take supplements containing powerful anti-oxidants such as the Sea Buckthorn fruit.

Both sexes can also reduce or prevent the undesirable effects of menopause by taking simple steps like eating a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, staying smoke free, controlling stress, optimizing sleep with relaxation exercises, doing pelvic floor muscle exercises to improve urinary incontinence, and going for regular check-ups.

By taking the right steps, men and women can easily manage menopause and fight the ravages of time without letting the undesirable symptoms affect their quality of life. After all, one should enjoy life at its prime.
